Time

Directions

  1. Wash the shirt ahead of time in warm, soapy water. This helps get rid of any coatings that might prevent the dye from penetrating.
  2. Lay the garment on a flat surface after folding it in half lengthwise.
  3. At the shirt's centrefold, draw a half-heart.
  4. Carefully pleat from end to end along the sketched line.
  5. Along the length of the shirt, use rubber bands to keep the pleats in place, then place aside.
  6. Put on rubber gloves and combine two cups of hot tap water with two tablespoons of well-shaken liquid colour. Sprinkle in 1 tablespoon of salt. Transfer into a spray bottle, pour. Shake firmly. Repeat to achieve the desired number of colours.
  7. Next, place the bound garment on a wire rack with a tray underneath to avoid staining the wrong areas.
  8. In sections made using rubber bands, squeeze dye onto the shirt. Flip over and repeat.
  9. While the shirt is still tied up, perform the following to set the dye:
    1. Rit ColorStay Dye Fixative should be applied with a squeeze bottle to intensify the colours and lessen bleeding. Apply liberally to both sides of the fabric a mixture of 2 tablespoons of water and ColorStay Dye Fixative that has been thoroughly mixed.
    2. If there are no metal components on the item of clothing, we strongly advise using your microwave. Place the cloth into our microwave tray after using ColorStay Dye Fixative, or wrap it in plastic wrap and seal the edges. In the microwave, place the wrapped fabric on a paper towel, and heat for two minutes. Inflating plastic will create a heat chamber that aids in fusing the dye to the fabric. Remove the fabric after the microwave has finished cooking it, then crack open the plastic and allow it to cool.
  10. Instead of using a microwave on a hot, sunny day, you can leave the wrapped fabric outside in the sun for an hour.
  11. Using cold water, rinse until the water becomes clear. This is crucial in preventing any white regions from being stained by the colour that hasn't been absorbed. When washing, it's best to spread out the fabric bundle on a baking rack. Some of the unabsorbed dye may seep into the white areas if it is held vertically during the rinsing process.
  12. Remove the rubber bands and unfold the top carefully.
  13. Wash your creation using cold water and let it air dry.
  14. You can now wear your creation!
